Celebrities with OCD Join The Mental Health Anti-Stigma Campaign: “#MyYoungerSelf!”

This is #MyYoungerSelf, the Child Mind Institute’s campaign to counter the stigma for the 1 in 5 children struggling with mental health and learning disorders. Actors, athletes, social influencers, businesspeople and more send a message of hope about their experience growing up with these disorders. We are showcasing all of the videos involving celebrities discussing their experiences with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Mayim Bialik has OCD.
Mayim Bialik is an actress and neuroscientist. From 1991 to 1995, she played the title character of NBC’s Blossom. Since 2010, she has played Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory.
Jenny Jaffe has OCD, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and depression.
Jenny Jaffe is a writer, comedienne, mental health advocate and founder of Project UROK. We asked what she’d like to tell her younger self. “You’re going to love what happens on the other side of what you’re going through. It’s not always going to be easy, you’re going to go through a lot of challenges, but what you’re going to find is that what you’re going through is going to make you stronger than you ever thought you could be.”
Tara Sim has depression, anxiety and OCD. Tara Sim is a YA author from Bay Area, California. In 2016 she released the first installation of the “Timekeeper” trilogy.
Actress Mara Wilson has stared in major Hollywood films including “Mrs. Doubtfire,” starring alongside Robin Williams, and “Matilida.” Mara Wilson was also named the keynote speaker at the IOCDF’s 2019 annual OCD conference! Study Examining Standard Treatment and a Mobile Application for Childhood OCD. Participation Opportunities for Children with OCD to Receive Free Behavioral Therapy!

Is your child between 9 to 17 years of age? Does your child have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)? Do they have intrusive thoughts or pictures that come into their head and make them feel bad? Do they have to do things over and over again in order to make themselves feel better? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in a trial being conducted at the UCLA Child OCD Program. All eligible participants receive a free 12-week course of standard psychological treatment, known as exposure and response prevention (ERP). Participants will also be using a mobile application along with standard treatment for 6 of the 12 weeks to see if it may help enhance treatment. Author Nicole Llera featured on the podcast “All Things Therapy” discussing her OCD-themed novel “Permission To Bloom!”

“Permission to Bloom” is a novel written by author Nicole Llera about a college student struggling with OCD and other mental health difficulties.

Author Nicole Llera was gracious enough to donate copies of her mental health themed book, “Permission to Bloom,” as prizes in our opportunity drawing at our annual conference this year!

Nicole was recently interviewed on the podcast, “All Things Therapy” by Lisa Tahir on LA Talk Radio. Nicole is a Princeton Graduate and author. On the podcast Nicole Llera discusses her novel, Permission to Bloom. It’s an inspiring story of a college student navigating mental illness and utilizing her natural supports to find her inner strength.
