Save The Date! OCD SoCal is Hosting a Virtual Event on Saturday, October 15th to Celebrate OCD Awareness Week 2022!

OCD Southern California is asking you to ‘save the date’ of Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 11am to 1pm PST! We are hosting a free, 2-hour virtual event that is open to anyone, from anywhere, interested in attending. The event is to celebrate OCD Awareness Week 2022, which is a week to provide education on what OCD is, as well as resources and a sense of community, to the world at large!

If you are interested in attending, or know someone who would benefit from attending our event, please email info@ocdsocal.org to be on our mailing list to receive more information and to receive the event link.

We hope to see you there! Stay tuned to our website for an upcoming post that will include more details on each of our presentations. Following the presentations will be an open question and answer segment, allowing attendees to ask any of the panelists questions!

Our presentation titles and speakers are:

Tickets Available! Driver’s Seat West Coast Premiere

Based on true events, this one-woman show tells the story of living with OCD, a once-in-a-lifetime heartbreak, a mental health hospitalization, coming out as queer, and, just possibly, learning how to drive. Written and performed by Ellie Brelis, her darkest moments are told with truth and humor as she finds her unique voice while navigating recovery. Winner of the 2022 NY Frigid Festival Audience Choice Award, the West Coast Premiere, don’t miss the West Coast premiere of Driver’s Seat!

“After being hospitalized, I scoured everything online and in TV and film, looking for someone else’s experience with OCD. There was nothing that mirrored my experience of living with this disorder, or receiving intensive care that rang true to me. So, I started writing this in July 2020,” says playwright Brelis. “The play has evolved over the past two years, but the story remains the same: taking agency over one’s life and discovering comedy in dark moments. Finding the humor in, and sharing my lived experience, will hopefully widen the scope of how people view OCD, and normalize treatment for mental health emergencies.”
