Janet Singer is an advocate for OCD awareness, with the goal of spreading the word that OCD, no matter how severe, is treatable. At the age of eighteen, her son Dan suffered from OCD so debilitating he could not even eat. Today, thanks to exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, he is a college graduate working in his chosen field and living life to the fullest. Janet writes regularly for Psych Central and has been published on many other web sites including Mentalhelp.net, Beyond OCD, Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and Mad in America. She has also been an invited speaker at OCD conferences. She started her own blog, ocdtalk (www.ocdtalk.wordpress.com) in 2010 and it currently reaches readers in 162 countries.
On Saturday, June 14, 2014, The Gateway Institute is hosting an Open House Mixer for the Southern California Affiliate of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in our newly expanded offices in Costa Mesa, California. Please join us for this exciting event!
Jim Sterner, Director of Gateway Institute and President of the Southern California Affiliate of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) is committed to the mission of increasing awareness and understanding of OCD throughout Southern California by sponsoring this event and other educational programs offering support and a sense of community with other OCD sufferers and their families.
We are pleased to welcome to our mixer, guest speaker, Sarosh J. Motivala, Ph.D., Director of Training for UCLA’s OCD Treatment Program. Dr. Motivala will address details of Exposure Therapy and its importance in the treatment protocol of managing OCD. In addition, Chris Trondsen, distinguished speaker on OCD, will join us to share his personal journey and miraculous recovery from OCD. We will also hear from Chris’ mother as she shares her first-hand account from a family member’s perspective.
We encourage you to attend with friends and family who are interested in learning more about OCD, the IOCDF Southern California Affiliate and the International OCD Foundation conference in Los Angeles July 16-18, 2014. You will also have the opportunity to meet others with OCD and their families, as well as local doctors and therapists.
Light snacks and beverages will be served. Please RSVP by June 10th to ocdsocal@gmail.com.
We look forward to seeing you there!
