Dr. Alec Pollard is the Special Guest for the Saturday, May 9th, Family & Loved One’s OCD Support Group from 11am to 1pm PDT!

Chris Trondsen, LMFT, a clinician with OCD, and his mom, Liz Trondsen, are excited to remind you about our May, virtual, free Family and Loved Ones OCD Support Group. It will be held Saturday, May 9, for two hours, from 11 AM – 1 PM PDT. This support group is every second Saturday of the month, from 11am to 1pm Pacific Time. It is a free, virtual support group available to anyone from anywhere!

To join the support group, email info@ocdsocal.org and simply request the event’s Zoom link or for more information!

Our guest for the Saturday, May 9th, Family and Loved Ones’ OCD Support Group is author, speaker, trainer, and leader in the field, C. Alec Pollard, Ph.D. As group facilitators, it is our mission to bring top-notch guests to each of our support groups to address different aspects of loving and supporting someone with OCD. The support group is 2 hours, from 11am to 1pm Pacific Time, and will start with our guest, Dr. Alec Pollard, discussing relevant information to attendees with a loved one suffering from OCD. The second half will feature a question-and-answer segment where attendees can ask live questions, or ask them publicly or anonymously in the chat! Here is more information on the details to be discussed on May 9th, as well as information on our guest speaker, Dr. Pollard!

We often hear from attendees that they are struggling to get their loved one into OCD treatment, either for the first time or to treatment after a previous negative experience with therapy. Alec will address this problem, including ways to discuss treatment with your loved one, how to reduce accommodations and enabling, reducing home stress, and ultimately, what you, the loved one, can do to improve the situation even if your loved one is not involved in the treatment plan.

Additionally, many of you have a loved one in OCD treatment, yet they are falling short of hitting their treatment goals, and it feels as if they are not giving their “all” in treatment. Alec Pollard, Ph.D., will address potential treatment-interfering behaviors (TIBs) at play, the role of supporters, ways to help your loved one be more successful in treatment, and, ultimately, how to address a loved one in treatment who is not experiencing much success.

Dr. Pollard will draw on both his clinical expertise and material from his popular book, “When a Loved One Won’t Seek Mental Health Treatment.” You will learn ways to improve your family’s current situation, even if your loved one is not in treatment or is not interested in collaborating if they are. This talk will be for family members, loved ones, spouses, friends, and anyone supporting a person in their life with OCD. People with OCD, educators, therapists, and anyone interested in the material are welcome to join!

Alec Pollard, Ph.D., will then answer your questions during the Q&A before the group’s conclusion!

Here is Dr. Pollard’s bio:

Dr. Pollard is Founding Director of the Center for OCD and Anxiety-Related Disorders at Saint Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute and Professor Emeritus of Family and Community Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He is a licensed psychologist who works with a range of obsessive-compulsive and anxiety-related disorders, with a special interest in obstacles that inhibit the pursuit of recovery or interfere with effective participation in treatment. He is on the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation and chairs the organization’s Training Committee, including a national training initiative called the Behavior Therapy Training Institute.  Dr. Pollard is former chair of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and has authored or coauthored over 100 publications, including his most recent book entitled When a Loved One Won’t Seek Mental Health Treatment: How to Promote Recovery and Reclaim Your Family’s Well-Being, now available in Spanish.

We will see you Saturday, May 9th, from 11 AM – 1 PM PDT!

The event is open to loved ones, family members and spouses of someone with OCD, as well as people with OCD—or anyone else interested.

To join the support group, email info@ocdsocal.org and simply request the event’s Zoom link or for more information!

Join us Saturday, April 11th at 11am PT for a free, virtual Family & Loved One’s Support Group with an “Ask an Expert” Panel!

Chris Trondsen, LMFT, a clinician with OCD, and his mom, Liz Trondsen, are excited to remind you about our April, virtual, free Family and Loved Ones OCD Support Group. It will be held this Saturday, April 11 for two hours, from 11 AM – 1 PM PST. This support group is every second Saturday of the month, from 11am to 1pm Pacific time. It is a free, virtual support group available to anyone from anywhere!

To join the support group, email info@ocdsocal.org and simply request the event’s Zoom link or for more information!

For the April support group on the 11th, we are featuring an “Ask an Expert” panel of clinicians and individuals impacted by OCD who have years of experience with OCD recovery and treatment. This “Ask an Expert” panel features OCD therapist / specialist Kevin Foss, MFT, who runs the California OCD & Anxiety Treatment Center, as well as hosts the “Fearcast” podcast. The panel will also feature psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Siegel, who owns a private practice and is an ivy-league trained clinician who also has seen patients right here at USC. Ethan Smith, an OCD advocate who lives with the disorder, has been the face of OCD recovery for many years and hosts the “Community Conversations” livestream for the International OCD Foundation. Finally, the panel also features our very own Liz Trondsen, a mother of a son with OCD. Liz was crucial in helping her son recover and is both a board member of OCD Southern California and has co-facilitated this group for 13 years.

For the first half of the 2-hour support group, these four experts have spent time evaluating their work and lives to highlight their top 5 pieces of wisdom to help your loved one get better. They will share what they wish they knew at your stage of the recovery process, helping a loved one overcome this disorder, and you will leave with these tips to streamline your family’s recovery process.

For the second half of the support group, we will then open it up for a huge Q&A, ensuring we get to every question! You will be able to ask the questions in the chat, publicly or privately, or ask live on camera. No pressure to ask a question, we know many of the questions asked from others in a similar situation will help your family’s recovery.

The Tibergs: “The Lessons We’ve Learned Along the Way” at this Saturday, Feb. 14th’s Family & Loved One’s OCD Support Group!

Chris Trondsen, LMFT, a clinician with OCD, and his mom, Liz Trondsen, are excited to remind you about our February, virtual, free Family and Loved Ones OCD Support Group.

It will be held this Saturday, February 14 for two hours, from 11 AM – 1 PM PST. To receive the Zoom link for this support group, please email info@ocdsocal.org.

We are excited to announce that we are going back to basics and have invited a family to discuss their OCD journey. Dianne and her husband, Matt Tiberg are parents of a teenage daughter. Their daughter suffers from OCD, as well as emetophobia (fear of throwing up). Dianne and Matt will discuss what they did as parents when symptoms first appeared, how they helped their daughter navigate treatment, and their new role now that their daughter is doing well.

They will share with you what they did right and what mistakes they made in an effort to help you navigate supporting a loved one with OCD.

The Tibergs will also address the sudden onset of their daughter’s OCD from a PANS / PANDAS infection.

By attending this support group, you will feel a sense of hope and recognize you are not alone in this journey. Come and learn from a family that has successfully traveled this road.

The first hour will be dedicated to hearing their remarkable recovery journey.  The second hour will be an open Q&A session where anyone can ask questions. You do not want to miss February’s support group!

We will see you this Sat, February 14th from 11 AM -1 PM PST!

The event is open to loved ones, family members and spouses of someone with OCD, as well as people with OCD—or anyone else interested. Anyone from anywhere can join!

In order to foster a safe community, we do not record the support group. This allows attendees the opportunity to share their experiences and ask questions in a safe space. We encourage you to attend or listen in to the support group live on Saturday.

You are Invited to “An OCD Master Class: Family & Loved Ones’ Edition” at this Saturday’s Free, Online Family & Loved Ones OCD Support Group!

Every second Saturday of the month, from 11am to 1pm PST, OCD SoCal board members Chris Trondsen, LMFT, and Liz Trondsen host a virtual, free, Family & Loved Ones OCD Support Group. To join us for our December support group, which is Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 11am to 1pm PST, please email us at info@ocdsocal.org and just request the link! Anyone from anywhere can join!

An OCD Master Class: Family & Loved Ones’ Edition

For the final group of 2025, on Saturday, December 13th, we invite you to an OCD master class that addresses all aspects of OCD and its treatment. We receive so many questions during our Family & Loved Ones Support Group, that we will focus on this for the December support group. We have invited two experts in the field.

However, you do not want to miss the opening discussion that precedes the Q&A. We have invited Lauren Rosen, LMFT, the author of the upcoming “The Mental Compulsions Workbook for OCD.” Additionally, we will be joined by USC Psychiatrist and researcher, Adam Frank, Ph.D., MD. These two special guests will lend their expertise to lead a complete master class on OCD.

The opening discussion will incorporate key OCD topics that include: what to do if your loved one has stubborn or difficult to treat OCD, how your loved one can get better if their OCD is predominantly mental, expectations on improvement during different stages of OCD treatment, how to find scientific-based resources for OCD, how one gets better from OCD, and what should family members and loved ones do or don’t do to make your loved one’s recovery more likely. Additional topics include a discussion on frontline medications for OCD treatment, what to expect regarding side effects and improvements, and a discussion on additional interventions that include TMS, ketamine, deep brain stimulation, and psychedelics.

We will kick off the group with a master class, so you have a solid understanding of every element of OCD recovery and treatment. We will then dedicate the second half to answering your specific questions that remain after the open discussion, either on what was discussed earlier or your personal situation.

Chris Trondsen, LMFT, who also has OCD, along with his mom, Liz Trondsen, will host the support group and provide additional insights and resources! Do not miss the final group of 2025!

The event is this Saturday, December 13th from 11AM – 1 PM PST. To join us for our December support group, please email us at info@ocdsocal.org and just request the link!
