DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThe Southern California OCD Affiliate have joined forces to walk in support of reducing the stigma associated with OCD\, increasing community support\, and breaking down the barriers to getting treatment. \nPlease join us in spreading OCD awareness at this year’s NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) 5K Walk in Irvine on October 10\, 2015. \nWe’re hoping to get as many team members as possible; feel free to invite your friends\, family\, and loved ones to participating towards this cause. \nWe ask that all individuals planning to participate please register with the link below. Please note\, it is customary of the NAMI Walk teams to wear a t-shirt representing their team. We’re having OCD Buster shirts made per your request. The t-shirt price is $14 per shirt\, and all proceeds will be dedicated to the event. \nPlease join us in helping individuals with OCD know that they’re not alone. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the USC School of Medicine has launched a major study to identify the genetic causes of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Related Disorders. \nWHO? \nAnyone ages 7 and up with symptoms or a diagnosis of OCD and related disorders are welcomed to participate. \nWHAT? \nParticipation involves completion of an interview along with the a one time donation of a small blood sample. \nWHERE? \nRenewed Freedom Center \n1849 Sawtelle Blvd. Ste. 543 \nLos Angeles\, CA 90025 \nWHEN? \nOct. 25\, 2015 @ 11am – 3pm\, RSVP By: Oct 16th\, 2015 \n@  info@renewedfreedomcenter.com or 310-268-1888 \n  \nWHY? \nResearch has shown that genes can make some people more likely than others to develop Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Related Disorders (Hoarding Disorder\, Body Dysmorphic Disorder\, Hair Pulling Disorder/Trichotillomania\, and Skin Picking Disorder/Excoriation Disorder). Teams of researchers at the University of Southern California and other collaborating research sites are trying to find these genes. Once these genes are identified\, new and improved treatments may be developed. \n  \nPresenters! \nDr. Barbara Van Noppen-“The Role of the Family in OCD” \n& Dr. Jenny C. Yip-“Pediatric OCD: Treatment & Effects on School\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOCD is characterized by obsessions which are unwanted thoughts\, images and impulses that “pop” into a person’s mind\, generate anxiety and lead to compulsions that are actions aimed to reduce the distress generated by the obsessions. \nHoarding Disorder is characterized by excessively saving items that others may view as worthless and have persistent difficulty getting rid of or parting with possessions\, leading to clutter that disrupts an ability to use living or work spaces. \nBody Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is characterized by thoughts about real or perceived flaws for hours each day that may cause severe emotional distress and interfere with daily functioning. \nTrichotillomania is a disorder that involves recurrent\, irresistible urges to pull out hair from the scalp\, eyebrows or other areas of the body\, despite trying to stop. \nExcoriation Disorder (skin picking disorder\, SPD) is characterized by repetitive touching\, rubbing\, scratching\, picking\, or digging into the skin\, often in an attempt to remove small irregularities or perceived imperfections.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information regarding the study\, please visitkeck.usc.edu/pgc-ocd or contact them at cgp@usc.edu. \n(All inquiries are confidential)
